MILITARY VEHICLE INSURANCE | Military Car Insurance

Insurance companies can be somewhat bureaucratic and do not even know what an MV is half the time so this to them means high risk and thus high, high premiums. So its no bad thing to “re-name” your MV to something slightly different such as a “1952 Dodge Pickup” or in the UK you could get away with “Range Rover” or something of that nature.

So when you are taking out your military vehicle insurance (or military car insurance) try not to give too much away about what it is you are actually trying to insure. Don’t tell them about the guns or the wheel tracks or the Xenon search light. Obviously if you were to have an accident and the insurance company believe that you did not tell them the truth about the vehicle then you will be left high and dry. So its better to tell less than to tell more, but keeping within the boundaries and playing sensible and fair.

-

So what do the insurance agents need to know?
Simple really:

- what is the value of the vehicle
- how will the vehicle be used
- where will it be kept when not in use

*

Because the military vehicle may be old the insurance “blue book” may only provide scrap metal value, if anything. If the vehicle is really worth a lot then you will have to be upfront as to how much you wish to insure it for.

-

The things needed to know when discussing how the vehicle will be used are:

- how many miles will it do each year
- for use on public highways and roads or trailored to events

*

How about antique military insurance?

If the vehicle will be used only for showcase events and if it qualifies by its age then you should consider taking out antique registrations insurance. Often the rates will a lot lower and things will be simpler if the vehicle is not driven often and it is “used” only for show purposes. Its very tempting to take this line regardless of using the MV on the road or not but be careful because if you try to claim and you have been “mis-using” the vehicle, you will come unstuck for sure.
